Whispers

Sometimes encouragement doesn’t need to shout to be heard

It can begin with a small whisper
You are: brave

Courageous

Kind

Loving

Adventurous
Knowing that it’s okay to wear your heart on your sleeve..
To live life with open hands

To give and receive

To know that when life is hard

You are not alone

There are many cheering you on

That have your back..
When you often think of others before yourself

Know that there will be days when you will need other people to be that for you.
When really we don’t have everything together all the time.

Sometimes life is tough..
And it’s okay to take one day at a time..
There are brighter days ahead..
And others need your smile, laughter and hope in their lives..as much as you do too.

Some thoughts on poetry

Even though I am a poet.. At school it was not something that I enjoyed. As it was all about formulas of how to write. Rather than something organic.

It’s as though poetry found me. I first began writing in my mid teens.

Poetry is meant to be felt by the reader. They can articulate their own meaning from the words written. It’s not something written to be taken apart and changed.
When I write it is as though an idea, thought or phrase kind of writes itself.. It just happens.

Words have the power to do great good. To encourage, bring hope and inspire those around us.

Confidence (a poem)

Confidence
Doesn’t always mean being bold

But that quiet voice

Saying ‘you are enough’

‘What you are doing is enough’
To be comfortable in knowing who you are and whose you are.
When people tell you otherwise..

You are enough

You are more than people’s opinions of you

Than criticism

Hurt

Or shame..
No these things need no longer define you..
But rather spur you on one small step at a time..

And if things don’t go as you’d hoped ..

Well tomorrow is a new day

to be filled with wonder, happiness and joy.
Tears too for there will be days when they will flow
And more new yet untrod steps to be taken

As we walk this amazing path that is life..

Fjelltoppen

Some moments are like mountains. When we’ve got to climb through some hard times.
Often travel difficult roads

That may be long journeys

or short ones.
But when we reach the top

What was once before us

becomes clearer.
Towards a new understanding

A realisation that

We are so much stronger than we think we are.
And that by looking back

How He has carried us through

the toughest of times

And never left

and He never will.

Windswept seas

Windswept Alone on an open sea

Choices
Hard but sad

Endings

Mean new beginnings
Tangled thoughts

Like twisted yew branches

Small ripples

Making waves.

evening scribblings..

When small smiles brighten up the darkest of days

Even then there is a glimpse of light

Peaking through the highest tree tops
Shining down on all who wander

Below the towering tree trunks
Sunbeams, shadows and glimpses

Of spring

With snowdrops scattered around

Almost a carpet of white.

Morning poetry

Written whilst I was on my way to work this morning. Background photo taken whilst I was waiting of the train.

[sonder] a poem

Sonder

n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.

Sonder

Moments eclipsing

New beginnings

Or maybe the middle

For others endings
All beautiful in their own way.

For we are sometimes; mere footnotes

In other people’s stories.

Staying only for a moment

Others for a longer while.

More reason to treasure those near and dear…
also those passing through.

For in all seasons we can learn from each other.

Even when things can feel a little crazy at times..

Often it’s in those crazy times when it’s most beautiful.
