A sense of an ending..

Yesterday I went on my last bike ride to Fremington Quay. Its a short ride from where I live, along the cycle trail. This next month is going to be full of many little endings.. Those moments where I’m like “Wow this is the last time I get to do this”.

It feels strange knowing I’ve travelled this route for the last time.

Hartland – [Part One]

Last month I went on my first solo cycle trip. It was amazing getting to spend three days by myself…no phone or internet either! I set off from Barnstaple..mid afternoon and arrived in Stoke early evening.

I cycled to a tiny village called Stoke which is two miles from Hartland village. Hartland is a peninsula off the coast of North Devon. I have been studying there for a year now. Its been a brilliant experience. I’ve loved going on little adventures.

Right after this I cycled up a massive hill near a village called Fairycross. The name was beauitful but the hill was a struggle but I made it to the top… Then I got to free wheel dowm…:-)

Well this week is my last full week in Devon so last night I went to BBQ on the beach with some friends. It was a beautiful evening. We ate chatted and played beach rounders. I’ve finished my studies for the summer so it was a great way to celebrate the end of term!

A Race Against Time…..

I took this yesterday when I cycled to Fremington to take some more pictures for my college project. It was so beautiful to get there in time for the sunset. I was quite literally racing against the clock to get the pictures taken for college before the sun set.

It was also the first bike ride I’d done this year besides cycling to and from college. Its amazing how quickly you can loose your stamina when you haven’t cycled for two and a half weeks. I really missed not being able to cycle when I was home so it was good to get back on my bike.

Yesterday I decided to go on another exploring adventure. It involved cycling from Bishops Tawton along the Tarkka Trail to Bideford. Along the way I passed through some pretty coastal villages.
About three miles from Bideford there is a little Village called Instow which still has its signal box. Many parts of the Tarkka Trail run along disused railway lines (many lines were axed during the Beaching cuts in the 1960’s). There are also some disused railway tracks there.

It looked like the little village station was stuck in time, like a train was coming at any moment. When I got to Bideford the station was sill there and there were even carriages on the rail tracks! On the station platform there were still benches and milk pails.
After I arrived at Bideford I cycled on to Westward Ho!. The steep hill I had to cycle to get up to the top of the seaside town was worth it.
